Qom rugs are among the finest rugs in the world. The holy city of Qom located 100km south of Tehran in the center of Iran. Although not traditionally a center of carpet production, rugs woven in the past hundred years rival those of the best quality on the market today. Qom Oriental carpets are often knotted entirely in silk, resulting in a carpet with great luster. The fine silk thread used makes it possible to produce incredibly detailed patterns of Persian carpet. The designs are typically curvilinear and floral in their pattern but many are woven to a pictorial scene, often a tree of life design.
