Kashan is one of the oldest central cities of Iran. Kashan Carpet and Rugs have been crafted since the 16th century. Kashan was a center of silk production since hundreds years ago and some of the best classical Persian silk rugs have been attributed to Kashan. The foundation of rugs tends to be cotton however some of the finest examples may be pure silk. The majority of Kashan carpets have a similar design with a central medallion and Persian floral motifs forming the pattern, however as with most regions designs may vary.
